Creating Space to Feel Good (4/7/8 Breathing Technique)

Breathe.

Almost all the time we breathe automatically, in an autopilot mode. However, there is a great sensation when we fell our breathe. It is an awareness of inhale and exhale. When the air is flowing inside our body and we release it slowly,  the brain feels like releasing its burden every time we breathe consciously.

Breathe

Is another way  to create space, emotional space. It gives more energy to space that I want. Therefore, I can feel the sensation on whatever things that make me feel good.

Have you breathe today?

Allow me to share the 4-7-8 breathing technique, a breathing pattern technique developed by Dr. Andrew Weil based on yogic technique called pranayama to help people gain control over their breathing.

  1. Sit in a comfortable position.
  2. Let your lips part and make a whooshing sound, completely exhale through your mouth.
  3. Rest the tip of your tongue against the roof your mouth, right behind your top front teeth.
  4. Close your lips, silently inhale through the nose as you count to four in your head.
  5. Hold your breath for seven seconds.
  6. Make another whooshing exhale from your mouth for eight seconds.
  7. This is one breath.
  8. Repeat the cycle three more times.

It is suggested not to do it more than twice in a day (oh please don’t ask me why). However, whenever you are aware of tension or stress you can always do it. Especially before you are reacting toward something, make sure you create space within yourself first.

Enjoy breathing! And enjoy being alive.
